Be’er Sheva

Commonly referred to as the “Capital of the Negev Desert”, Be’er Sheva is the fourth largest metropolitan area in Israel, and is known for its vibrant student community, excellent nightlight, and proximity to world-class hiking and camping.

Located at the northern edge of the vast Negev Desert, Be’er Sheva is one of Israel’s fastest growing cities and is a model for diversity and co-existence. The city is the home to Ben Gurion University and a growing number of multinational companies on the one hand, and it’s the deeply traditional hub for a network of Bedouin villages on the other hand.

Like much of Israel, this city straddles a world of ancient history and modern vision. The Old City is home to a thriving dining scene, a famed Bedouin market and ancient stone structures. The newly established Be’er Sheva River Park winds through the city and has been the source of much revitalization and environmentally-friendly development in the city.

In recent years Be’er Sheva has raised its profile as a center for culture. In addition to all of the opportunities hosted at Ben Gurion University, the city houses a new performance hall, an annual desert winery festival, and exceptional restaurants and bars. Its proximity to Negev makes it an excellent launching point for desert adventures, such as camel rides, camping, hiking, and star-gazing.

Be’er Sheva is located at the northern edge of the Negev Desert with excellent train and bus connections throughout Israel. Jerusalem and Tel Aviv are located less than an hour and a half away to the north. The tropical resort city of Eilat is located two and a half hours away to the south.
